An Overdenture is a denture that goes “over” something. The something are typically dental implants or teeth. Dental Implants are used when there are no healthy teeth remaining and a full denture is not secure enough. Most commonly the teeth would be endodontically (root canal) treated first, but some overdentures go over “copings”. In this picture of a patient’s lower jaw four (4) “balls” can be seen protruding from what is left of four endodontically treated teeth. Preparation to arrive to this point included sedation dentistry (the patient was sedated) while all other lower teeth were extracted, root canal therapy on these four (4) teeth, fabriction and delivery of an immediate denture. After adequated healing the definitive overdenture seen in previous blog pictures was fabricated. All dentistry done in my Palm Harbor, Tampa FL area dentist office.
