This is one of two redfish caught by friend Mike, on Sunday September 2, 2012, in the waters off Little Gasparilla Island, Florida. Two redfish, no blue fish. Mike fixes dental equipment all around the Tampa Bay area as well as for many Palm Harbor dentists. He also works for Tampa dentists. I know Mike since November 1987, where I met him in a dental office in Tarpon Springs. I was a young New York dentist, working for a Tarpon Springs dentist and Mike came into the dental office to fix something. I remember that day well. Being from New York and having graduated from Columbia Dental School, I had NEVER heard anyone talk like Mike before.
Life can take us down some unexpected paths. Things did not work out with that Tarpon Springs dentist, but the next month I decided to move to Palm Harbor Florida, hang out a “shingle” and become a Palm Harbor dentist, opening my office for business on Saturday April 23, 1988 with only one patient scheduled, no assistant and my mother, Evelyn, working the front desk. This same Mike installed the dental equipment at 2708 US Alt 19N, Palm Harbor, Florida 34683. His wife, Lisa, was pregnant with their first child. Mike and I became friends. We have stayed friends and that is how I first got to enjoy that small strip of paradise called Little Gasparilla Island.
