Just yesterday I was asked by one of my patients, “Can you tell me the difference between a dental implant and a crown?” A dental implant is not a tooth, it is the equivalent of a tooth root. As this picture shows, a crown can be placed on a dental implant.
Dental Implants can also be used to secure loose removable partial or full dentures. The dental implant abutment shown in this picture is white in color, therefore it is most likely a zirconia abutment.
