This is a picture of a broken tooth #28, missing tooth #29 and a sectioned abutment crown on tooth #30. Barely visible in the extreme left of this picture is a gold crown on tooth #31.
Traditional dentistry would continue extend the tooth supported fixed bridge further. The patient and her Clearwater dentist wanted to keep as many of her own natural teeth as possible. Traditional dentistry would have us using the tooth in front of the broken tooth as support (an abutment) and quite possibly the tooth with the gold crown also.
The treatment plan selected here is to remove the broken tooth, place two dental implants – thereby avoiding using any other natural teeth to support the missing teeth.
