This is the title of an article in the Tampa Bay Times from Saturday, October 6, 2012, written by the editor, Charlotte Sutton. It is a very interesting question, although I agree with most of the points she makes, I contend that the fact that Dentistry IS separate from medicine and this is a good thing. The economic’s of medicine are already SOCIALIST – socialism, as an economic model, on a large scale does not work. Obamacare cannot socialize medicine, it is already socialized. Capitalism works. Hard work, dedication and good business leads to success. Competition contains costs. Those that work harder, smarter and sacrifice, earn more and get ahead. In capitalism, one pays for and receives goods and services that are rendered. In socialism, someone else (either government or private insurance company) pays for goods and services. I do not hear about anyone writing articles about legal services needing to be socialized. Dental care (or medical care) is not a Constitutionally protected right.
