YES, it’s hot. I have lived near Palm Harbor, Florida for three decades and can tell you that yes: it’s CRAZY HOT. But what happens when you have a HOT tooth? Sure, you can jump into a swimming pool, or stick your face up to the air conditioning unit, or even try eating ice; but if you’ve ever had a HOT, throbbing toothache, you know none of those remedies work. As a matter of a fact, it seems like nothing works when you have a toothache.
Have you ever heard horror stories about trips to the dentist? “They didn’t give me enough Novocain.” “They started drilling before it was numb, etc?” Truth (or tooth) be told, sometimes it’s difficult to get a tooth numb if it is badly infected (HOT). At Dr. Caputo’s Palm Harbor Dental Office we know how HOT it can be so we do our best to keep you COOL. Sometimes you have to take an antibiotic for a couple of days just to get the infection under control. Other times a root canal has to be performed in two separate visits because the infection is so severe. This is why it’s important to see a dentist as soon as you feel pain or discomfort. The longer you wait the higher probability of infection. Also, surprisingly it becomes more expensive the longer you wait. If a tooth breaks and you address it immediately, sometimes a simple filling will solve the problem.
If, however, you wait till it becomes painful, then most likely bacteria has seeped through the broken area into the pulp or dentin of the tooth, creating the need for an extraction or root canal therapy. Once a tooth has had root canal therapy, more than ninety percent of the time it will now require a crown. That’s because the tooth that was once alive is now dead and brittle and more prone to breaking. So, just remember when things get HOT, we’ll do our best to COOL it down at Dr. Paul Caputo’s office. Just call us the COOL CAPUTO gang.
