What do our third set of teeth and stars have in common – they both come out at night.
This was told to me many years ago, some of us find this funny, for some it is sad, for some it is a relief. I have had the pleasure of with interacting with many dental patients over the course of 25+ years being a Dentist in Palm Harbor Florida. Most people would rather keep their own teeth, but for some, getting dentures is a relief from pain. For some people getting dentures is a financial relief and welcomed, for others, it is just plain necessary.
Most of my denture wearing dental patients eventually become accustomed to upper dentures, most are never happy with lower dentures. Whats the difference?
An upper denture has a surface area to border perimeter ratio that is satisfactory for some suction. Lower dentures are horseshoe shaped with a great amount of border, typically little surface area and no suction. In addition the tongue constantly dislodges the lower denture. As the lower denture moves around during function (chewing) sore spots are common.
Fortunately now we have a way to secure loose lower dentures. Three dental implants are the most economical way to have a snap on lower denture. Three dental implants in the lower jaw is a highly successful and much appreciated solution. It has become a very common treatment option in my Palm Harbor Dentist office.
